Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Works great for what I need. Installation instructions are very comprehensive, YouTube videos are a big plus, and can be done at home. I’m very satisfied with my purchase!

by:

Very well made hitch. Easy installation with good instructions. Would have given 5 stars but shipping package was poorly packed and had numerous chips in the paint because of it. Just stuck in a box with no protection. Also the hitch opening would not accept a hitch. Had to file the opening to get rid of ridges from the outer ring. Otherwise seems like a good receiver hitch.

This hitch fits a 2019 Honda CR-V with no cutting. I installed it myself and it looks good.

Works great No issues

Installation was just as shown in the example video. Very straightforward. Definitely lube the rubber exhaust hangers, I fought with mine. Chose this hitch specifically so I could still use my hands free tailgate as others noted. After install, it still works! Aesthetically not the neatest but it’s a great trade off for a working hands free tailgate.

by:

This is the second Draw-tite trailer hitch I purchased from Etrailer , very happy with the product and service.

by:

Easy to put on but will need another set of hands when it comes time to put the actual hitch on. Comes with all the hardware you will need including the bolt snakes. I can’t wait to put it to use this hunting season

by:

Ordered a Draw-tite hitch for my 2018 Honda CR-V. Hitch arrived super fast but the box had torn open during shipping (no fault of etrailer). Hitch was ok but hardware was missing. I called etrailer and spoke to Amy J. She took care of everything by quickly sending out new hardware. I can now install the hitch. Thank You Amy.

Installed by myself. Was a chore without help but my 3 jacks came in handy. Hitch fit our 2020 CR-V touring perfectly and appears very durable. Torqued to specs it is well mounted to frame and tow hook. Took a bit of adjusting position to get it around tow hook and line up 4 frame bolts but with 3 jacks, not surprising. The feed lines were great. Just took me a little time to remove the wound end before adding nuts/washers so I would not push the bolts back into frame but with patience it isn’t that bad. The Touring has dual exhaust so I had to unhook 5 exhaust hanger bolts from the rubber. I highly recommend an exhaust tool (I have a Lisle). Without the special tool, exhaust dropping is a bear. I also used silicone lubricant, which makes pushing them out and back in much easier. I was surprised even with the hitch, our hands free kick sensor still works if you kick to right of the receiver. I think a more hidden hitch might not work with it. I decided not to get a more hidden hitch because I didn’t want to cut anything. This one installs without mods and I like the look of the hitch itself. Makes me feel a little like I still have a Dodge Ram instead of an SUV.

by:

I had tried a different hitch and it was a nightmare and didn’t fit although it was “specific for my vehicle”. I ordered direct from etrailer and it worked like a charm. Put it on in less than 30 minutes.

by:

some scratched surfaces. But the customer services and installation visual aids were fantastic.

by:

Super fast shipping! Looks great, haven’t installed yet but I like the communication I’ve received already

by:

Like the product! Misleading install info. Exhaust hangers were a bear to disconnect. A special tool which wasn't mentioned in the product info would of made job much easier. Install took twice as long as advertised.

Hey, Duke! I appreciate the honesty with what would improve the videos. Out of curiosity, which tool are you referring to that would have been nice to have on hand before starting?

by:

My etrailer experience was exceptional. The order (hitch, hardware and rubber hitch cap) arrived nicely packaged, all intact and a day before it was promised.

The installation difficulty level was moderate since I did it alone from the ramps in tight space. It would be easy for 2 persons though. Video from etrailer helped a lot!
I touched a few paint chips and use wrapping to reduce install related paint damage.
After disconnecting 2 rear rubber muffler mounts and insetting 4 x7/16" bolts the hitch was placed on the top of muffler and supported there with jack until was bolted on. All took about 2.5 hours. Not counting couple visits to local Home Depot (to replace the lock washer since spacer block is crooking and was flipped on the other side. And to get additional socket adapters to make it work in tight space).

The hitch itself is tough and well constructed, except that one layer of paint is not be enough for NY winter. Rust prevention spray (e.g. T-9 Boeshiled or something similar) will be needed.

The hitch works well. Bike rack and bikes are stable and secure on multiple trips. It holds well after an year with rust prevention spray no visible rust, paint still intact.

I purchased and installed a Draw-Tite hitch for my Xterra 15 years ago and it never let me down. So decided to go that route again, but in this case with smaller car mostly for hauling bikes.

Installation was straight forward, and watching the installation video beforehand really made the process much smoother. The fish wires are AWESOME. I did the installation myself. The trickiest part was holding it up... which I did buy using a strap to tie the bracket at the back of the hitch receiver to the tow hook, so I could then maneuver easily to align the frame bolts... then after loosely tightening those, I untied and put the final bolt in place.

I used silicone spray on the rubber isolators, to avoid degrading the rubber.

The only deviation I found from the instructions was I had to use the largest access hole to install both frame bolts/spacers on each side... as the spacers would not fit through the smaller access hole next to the fwd frame bolt hole. It was not an issue, the fish wires made it easy to do this.

The whole process once parts/tools/care were prepped was 2 hours. I didn't rush. I installed the 118741 vehicle harness after this was done, it went smoothly too after watching the video.

Looking forward to many good years of use of this hitch!

A year later and Im still extremely happy with this hitch. Used it for bike racks and pulling several trailers around without issue.

I don’t write too many reviews unless product and service is exceptional or poor. My dealing with etrailer was exceptional. From help on the phone to make sure I received correct wiring harness to shipping to ease of instillation. Ian assured me of the correct harness, shipping was quicker than quoted. After watching instillation video on etrailer I was ready to go. I’m installing on 2018 Honda CRV and was never sure that nothing had changed from 2017 CRV. I was hoping maybe Honda would move wiring connection to a easier more logical location. The hitch took 50 minutes to install. Went exactly as etrailer video showed. The only problem I had was lining up hitch plate with tow loop. I suggest loosening up mounting bolt as far as possible and jacking directly under back end of receiver opening. I could not do this by hand but only took 3 pumps on my floor jack and everything lined up. I installed by myself and used a jack stand to balance one side of hitch while I bolted the other side. All hardware tightened and torqued nicely. I did loosen the mid muffler hanger for a bit more room. The Honda wiring harness was exactly where etrailer video showed it to be. Wiring was a struggle due to panels braced in place and I was unable to remove. I had very little room to work and needed wife to pull on panel while I put wiring in place. Watch the instillation videos on etrailer, it is perfect, explains everything you need to know and how to do it. Hitch install was 50 minutes by myself. Wiring install was 90 minutes and I needed extra hands. Price was great and I will go to etrailer for my future needs.

by:

4 out of 5 cause there's a small detail I wold have liked to see done better.

The bolt and washer for attaching in the center could have a better washer that grabs more of the part on the car.

It's fine, but hey, could be better!

And be ready for a little fight with those exhaust hangers,
Use lots of soapy water in there to pop them off.

by:

Fast shipping. Perfect fit, easy instructions to follow. Just made a trip with my bike rack installed in the hitch and worked great. Fish bolts through frame first and don't remove the bolt feeding wires until the hitch is positioned against the frame. Recommend having a jack stand and some way to balance the hitch when raising it into position and fishing bolts into position in car frame. It's tricky to do by yourself otherwise! During installation, the hitch tends to tip down towards the front end of the car - maybe put a pipe or weight into the hitch receiver to balance things out.

by:

Install took 90 minutes from backing up onto ramps to rolling back down. Pretty straightforward, watch the video a couple times and you won’t even need the instructions. My car is the 2018 CRV Touring with the hands free tailgate.

Notes:
1. I bought the exhaust hanger tool online and it was worth every bit of $20 to pop the pins out of the rubber bushing.
2. Exhaust hanger tool was useless for re-install, all you need is some silicone spray and strong fingers.
3. Two person job for sure. I held the unit in place while my son got all the nuts on finger tight.
4. Most important, the hands-free liftgate works just fine!

I attached my bike rack (1Up USA 2”), tossed a bike on, and drove around for 10 minutes, everything is good.

Perfectly!

by:

Here's a tip that might save some freaking out from happening. When I raised the vehicle I only did the right rear side just high enough to get my lowest jack stand under and be able to roll far enough under to reach the exhaust hanger in front of the rear axle. when I got the hitch loosely secured on the main four bolts I next went to install the hitch to tow point bolt and it was not lining up. took me a minute but I finally realized the vehicle being off level cause I only raised one side was enough to not allow it to fit correctly once I leveled the vehicle up it lined up perfectly.
Another Install note: since I installed this bymyself I let the exhaust loose from the rear hangers and left the one in front of the axle secured which allowed me to rest the hitch on the right and left mufflers. when I was ready to secure the bolts I only had to push the hitch up a few inches on the side I was working on and the other side stayed put on top of the muffler. Once it was loosely secured I then let the front one loose and that allowed the muffler to drop for me room to have room to work the torque wrench.
Great Product very nice to install everything fit well and shipped on time. this is my second hitch from E-Trailer.

Product was shipped and delivered without dents or chips in the trailer hitch. Video instructions were super helpful to install DIY. Elevated the rear of my car driving up two ramps placed underneath my rear tires to allow me enough working space underneath the vehicle. Took two people to lift and balance the hitch up towards the bolts and screw on the washer and nuts. Took about 1 hr of time to install. Works great to carry my 2 inch Kuat two bike rack.

Hey Sean, if the Draw Tite hitch you have is the # 76128 it's not supposed to fit the hybrid models so that would be why you are having the problem you mentioned. The Draw Tite part # DT79MR is instead the one that fits the hybrid models.
